It is well known that the UV rays of the sun can cause skin damage. It should therefore not surprise you that acne is aggravated by sun exposure. This is due to the fact that the sun’s rays damage skin and increase oil production.
Many people believe that there acne has been improved by laying out in the sun. This may in fact be true, in the beginning. The UV rays will kill the bacteria that cause breakouts. However, the damage that the rays do to your skin will far outweight any improvement caused by its anti-bacterial effects.

I have experienced first hand that UV light DOES help acne. When I stopped working 6 months ago, my face flared up everyday - baaad to the bone acne. I notice when I stay inside my home (with regular light bulbs), my acne is horrible, but when I leave the house and walk outside or go where there are fluorescent lights, my skin clears right up the next day. When I stay inside and get no exposure to UV light, my acne flares up. No, I do not sit in the sun for hours, I am talking normal exposure - walking, etc.

I agree with Alana. When we stayed on a beach in Florida, my son's acne (which is severe) was completely gone that night. We had never seen such a miracle! Within a few days, though, it returned.
